The document management system M-Files continues to evolve, providing organizations with an even more powerful and intuitive solution for managing their information. The August 2025 release delivers numerous updates that offer noticeable improvements for both end users and administrators.
Default gRPC port set to 443
When creating a new server connection in M-Files Admin, the default port for gRPC is now 443 instead of 7766. This improves compatibility with typical firewall configurations and simplifies setup.
No checkout prompt for read-only files
When double-clicking a PDF or other typically read-only file types, M-Files New Desktop now opens the file directly in read-only mode without prompting for checkout.
Improved accessibility of property groups in the metadata card
Property groups in the metadata card can now be expanded and collapsed more easily using both mouse and keyboard – improving usability and accessibility.
More visible column resizing slider
When adjusting column widths in the client, the slider between columns is now more visible – making resizing more intuitive for users.
Enhanced vault application infrastructure
Vault application startup has been improved with parallel extension loading, increased lifecycle reliability, and other under-the-hood optimizations.
Document collections available in Web and New Desktop
Users can now work with document collections and their members via the context menu in both M-Files Web and the New Desktop client.
Replace files via drag & drop from classic Outlook
Single files in M-Files can now be replaced simply by dragging them directly from classic Outlook into M-Files Web or Desktop.
Clearer default tab settings
In user settings, the option is now labeled “Select default tab” instead of “Select home tab.” Clicking the M-Files logo in the top-left now also takes the user to the defined default tab.
Open m-files:// links in New Desktop and Web
Hyperlinks using the m-files:// protocol from text properties (of the hyperlink subtype) can now be opened in the New Desktop – previously this was only supported in the Classic Desktop and Web.
Prevent duplicate imports from external sources in Multi-Server Mode
When using external file sources in Multi-Server Mode, M-Files now prevents the import of duplicate objects – helping maintain data integrity and reducing manual clean-up.
New search filter experience
The filter pane in the search view has been redesigned. Users can now multi-select filter options and use typing to narrow down selections – making it easier to apply and manage filters.
Workflow descriptions for better clarity
Workflows, states, and transitions can now include user-facing descriptions. Technical states that are not relevant to users can be excluded from the visual workflow history, keeping it clean and focused.
Performance improvements & resource caching
Improved caching for static assets reduces server load and boosts overall performance.
Note: Cloud release on August 17, 2025.
