Violations of the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) have long since ceased to be a trivial offense and are punishable by sometimes very high fines. In Germany, depending on the type of violation, this can be up to 20 million euros or 4% of the annual turnover generated worldwide - the higher value is applied here. In 2021, for example, the GDPR fines imposed in 434 individual penalties cracked the billion euro mark and totaled 1.277 billion euros.
