Business Central 20 - What´s new

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central offers a comprehensive business application solution designed and continuously optimised for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Since its launch in April 2018, Business Central, as the successor to Dynamics NAV (formerly Navision), has enjoyed increasing popularity among companies looking to drive digital transformation. Getting started is particularly quick and easy with our PowerStart concept, which supports you in getting started directly with the ERP from the cloud - even in the current version.

Version 20 of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central will be made available in April 2022. Users of the cloud version can then control via the Admin Center when exactly this update can be introduced in their system. Without these settings, the update will be reliably applied automatically approx. 14 days after availability.

We present some interesting new features in this article.

Block deletion of G/L accounts

A new field has been added for the financial accounting setup. If this is activated, the protection against the deletion of G/L accounts is improved. Previously, there was only the field "Check G/L account deletion after", but this has now been extended to include the option "Block G/L account deletion". This creates an even higher level of security and accounts can no longer be deleted by mistake.

Debtor and creditor

Another new feature of the update to Business Central 20 is the possibility to directly display the values on the respective cards for contacts that are creditors and debtors (e.g. the balance from the debtor to the creditor and vice versa).

In addition to this information, balances can also be offset against each other. This is done in the Zlg. Issue book sheet.

If the function "Net balances customer/vendor" has been executed, the book sheet fills up and can now be reposted.

Now the creditor no longer has a balance after the transfer and the customer's item has been reduced by the amount of the transfer.

Test new functions

The new features can currently already be tested in the cloud environment. To do this, a preview environment must be created via the Business Central Admin Center. The application 20.0.36751.0 is currently available in the preview.

A complete list of the new functions can be found here at Microsoft: Release Plan.
