Hewlett Packard Enterprise warns of SSD failures

Some HPE storage systems can lose data

Hewlett Packard Enterprise has issued a warning that data loss has occurred in its Proliant, Synergy, Apollo, JBOD D3xxx, D6xxx, D8xxx, MSA and StoreVirtual 3200 storage and storage systems. You can find out which SSDs are affected here. The users of the systems 3PAR, Nimble, Simplivity, XP and Primera are not affected by this warning.

The faulty drives acknowledge their service after the expiration of 32,768 hours or 3 years, 270 days and 8 hours. They are then neither addressable nor repairable and the data is lost. Also the employment of a RAID from two or more affected SSDs does not help according to the information.  The manufacturer of the SSDs has informed HPE about the error, there is not more exact information from the company.

Hewlettt Packard Enterprise recommends using the company's own SSD tool Smart Storage Administrator. This can be used to determine the previous runtime of the SSDs. Administrators who support older systems are called upon to perform this check at short notice. HPE provides patches for the affected SSDs via the support page, namely for VMware ESXI, Windows and Linux.
