Highlights Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central – Release Wave 2 2024

Microsoft recently published the Release Wave 2 2024 plan for Dynamics 365 Business Central. We present the highlights below.

Announcement of a subscription management and billing module

Companies have stepped up their digitalization and converted their products and services to subscription-based business models. Business Central now supports different types of subscription scenarios. A set of processes makes it possible to manage portfolios of items and services that are billed regularly, such as consumables, hardware maintenance, IT support, cleaning services, etc. The sale of services and items can be combined in blended subscription contracts that contain information about the items, services and billing schedule.

Templates simplify the creation of subscription contracts by standardizing the parameters and schedules for recurring billing. You can manage current prices and plan for future price changes. On the accounting side, the posting of accruals to balance sheet accounts is automated, and income or expenses are allocated to the correct periods in the income statement.

Feature-Details:

  • Contracts for which you create recurring invoices for items and services
  • Billing plans with flexible parameters that are tailored to typical use cases for recurring billing
  • Consumption-based billing
  • Automated billing
  • Integration of allocations
  • Revenue recognition on the basis of calculation plans
  • Contract updates (parameters and prices).
  • Standard reports on contracts, customers, billing plans, realized revenues, future billing dates and amounts, etc. Most reports will also be available as Power BI reports.

Further information can be found directly at Microsoft.

E-Invoices (XInvoices)
Microsoft has already published extensions for e-documents for the transmission of electronic documents such as invoices in recent releases. Based on this e-document framework, Microsoft will provide an extension for the creation of electronic invoices in the Peppol BIS3 or XRechnung formats in the next major release in the fall.

These e-invoices can be transmitted via one of the existing Peppol service providers or by manual upload and provision by e-mail. In the next release, Microsoft will therefore offer a standardized solution for sending and receiving electronic invoices, including XRechnungen.

In addition, enhancements are planned for the batch import of electronic documents and a Copilot-supported mapping of incoming electronic invoices against purchase orders or purchase invoices in Business Central.

These enhancements will further increase the efficiency of your business processes, simplify administrative workflows and reduce operating costs. You can look forward to improved transparency, faster transaction processing and a contribution to environmental friendliness by reducing paper consumption.
