With the release of M‑Files Online 26.8, M‑Files introduces a range of enhancements focused on usability, security, collaboration, and productivity. The update delivers improvements for both end users and administrators, making everyday document management even more efficient.

Validation errors on the metadata card are now better integrated with screen readers and other assistive technologies. Error messages are linked directly to their corresponding fields and clearly identified as invalid, making them easier to detect and navigate.
When metadata is updated automatically by AI, the activity feed now displays “M‑Files AI” instead of the generic “M‑Files” editor entry. This provides greater transparency by clearly distinguishing AI-generated changes from user actions.
Files stored in M‑Files Cloud using SharePoint Embedded can now be automatically scanned by Microsoft Defender for malware and viruses. Files identified as infected are blocked from previewing, downloading, and other forms of access, improving enterprise security.
The new M‑Files clients now display icons alongside workflows, workflow states, classes, object types, and custom value list items. This enables users to identify object information more quickly without opening individual items.
The metadata card now correctly displays custom colors for property group headers and descriptions, providing a cleaner and more consistent user experience.
External sharing events are now recorded in the Vault Event Log. Administrators can track the creation, access, modification, expiration, and removal of external links directly from MFAdmin.
Workspace and document links within metadata card properties are now fully accessible through keyboard navigation, improving usability for keyboard users and those relying on assistive technologies.
Users can now create relationships between objects using drag and drop. The same functionality can be used to add documents to document collections, append files to multi-file documents, or replace file contents.
Upload performance has been improved in the new Web and Desktop clients. In addition, files larger than 2 GB can now be uploaded successfully, simplifying work with large documents and technical files.
M‑Files now supports previews for CAD files with the extensions .dwg, .dxf, .dwt, and .dgn. Users can review technical drawings directly in the Preview tab without opening external applications.
The new “Edit in Web” option allows users to open and co-author documents stored in Microsoft 365 directly in Office Web. This makes online collaboration easier and reduces reliance on desktop applications.
When users attempt to open an object without read permissions, M‑Files now displays a clear “access denied” message instead of the generic “not found” notification, making the reason immediately understandable.
Document comparison operations can now be canceled while they are running. A new cancel button allows users to stop the process without waiting for the comparison results.
Using the UIXv2 framework, up to three dashboards can now be displayed side by side in a pop-up window. This makes it easier to compare information and work more efficiently across multiple data views.
