Microsoft unbundles Teams from Microsoft 365 and Office 365 in Europe

In response to a formal investigation by the European Commission regarding the bundling of Microsoft Teams with Microsoft 365 and Office 365 business suites, Microsoft is announcing proactive changes.

These changes affect customers in the European Economic Area and Switzerland and are intended to address two key concerns of the Commission:

1. Starting Oct. 1, 2023, Microsoft Teams will be unbundled from Microsoft 365 and Office 365 suites. New packages without Teams will be offered at a lower price (€2 less per month or €24 less per year). Teams can be purchased separately for €5 per month or €60 per year.
2. Microsoft will improve its resources to promote interoperability between its Office products and competing products. This includes creating new support resources for application developers and pointing them to existing APIs.

In addition, Microsoft will develop new mechanisms to enable third-party solutions for hosting Office Web applications. Microsoft emphasizes its commitment to both working with the European Commission and supporting a healthy competitive environment.
