Release Notes January 2026: New Improvements for M‑Files Online

M‑Files continues to evolve to provide organizations with a powerful and user‑friendly platform for managing information. The January 2026 release introduces several enhancements across Desktop, Web, and Server that deliver tangible benefits for both end users and administrators.

Built‑in object types “Email” and “Email Conversation” removed from the Create button
The Create button no longer displays the built‑in object types “Email” and “Email Conversation”, which were only used by the legacy M‑Files for Outlook implementation. This update simplifies the interface and prevents users from manually creating these objects.
Solution: Changes in Server, Desktop.

About M‑Files menu moved to the last position
The About M‑Files menu entry has been relocated to the bottom of the menu to improve menu structure and make the option easier to find.
Solution: Changes in Server, Desktop.

Users can switch desktop client experience even when a default interface is defined
The Advanced Vault Setting Select Default User Interface has been renamed to Hide Toggle in M‑Files Desktop Settings. The default UI now applies only on first launch if the user has never opened either interface before. Users can still freely switch between classic and new desktop experiences.
Solution: Changes in Server, Desktop.

Renewed Top App Bar experience
Search functionality is now available even in mobile browsers, regardless of browser width. This ensures users can easily find information on the go.
Solution: Changes in Server, Desktop.

Improved handling of Chrome network permission prompts
The Web Companion now provides clearer guidance when Chrome asks for local network access, helping users choose the correct option and avoid connection issues.
Solution: Changes in Server.

Client‑side OCR for Web and New Desktop
Users can now trigger OCR directly from the new Desktop and Web clients. Additionally, OCR is automatically suggested for new image files based on Advanced Vault Settings configurations.
Solution: Changes in Server, Desktop.

Metadata card now shows properties even if their group is hidden
Properties assigned to a hidden group are now visible on the metadata card in the new Desktop and Web clients, ensuring consistency with Classic Desktop behavior.
Solution: Changes in Server, Desktop.

Search optimization settings extended to value lists
Administrators can now also configure search optimization for value lists under
Configuration → Search → Optimization in Advanced Vault Settings.
Solution: Changes in Server.

Refined contextual search experience
Search UI controls have been streamlined in the new Desktop and Web clients to deliver a faster and more intuitive search experience.
Solution: Changes in Server, Desktop.

Note: Release to Cloud on 18 January 2026
Available for downloads & auto‑updates: from 21 January 2026
