Electronic Data Interchange, or EDI for short, is the collective term for data exchange using electronic transfer procedures. Directly involved (as sender, transporter and recipient of the messages sent) are application systems of the companies/organisations involved with minimal or no human intervention. The format Electronic Data Interchange For Administration, Commerce and Transport - EDIFACT for short - is an international standard for the format of electronic data in business transactions, established by the United Nations.
