Summarize, query, analyze - with Copilot for Power BI

Microsoft has introduced a new feature for Power BI and Copilot that is available in public preview. This new feature gives users the ability to get direct summaries, deep insights and answers to specific questions from their data reports through chat-based commands.

Copilot in view mode

Users can create summaries of their report content with just a few clicks in view mode. Gone are the days of endless manual analysis - Copilot streamlines this process and provides concise overviews that highlight key trends, patterns and insights in your visualizations.

Tailor-made advice at the touch of a button

With customizable requirements, Copilot adapts its support to specific needs and guides users through the exploration process with ease. Preconfigured prompts can be used for this purpose, such as

  • Creating a list of insights
  • Summarize visuals on this page
  • Provide a summary of this report

But custom prompts are also possible, for example:

  • What are some key sales insights on this page?
  • What are some interesting customer segments?
  • What is the correlation between product type and revenue?

Copilot scans the visualizations of the report page and answers the query in natural language, making it easier to analyze the report. From gaining insights to highlighting key sales metrics, Copilot's prompts pave the way for unprecedented data discovery. Copilot text can be copied and pasted into emails, Power Points or Teams threads for targeted distribution of the information generated.

Answers in real time

Another exciting aspect of Copilot is its ability to provide customized, real-time answers to questions. Copilot can also link to specific visualizations in the report, making it easier to understand the underlying data. Here are some examples:

  • What is the top-selling product?
  • What was the total revenue in 2021?
  • What is the average length of stay?

To find out what requirements must be met to use the preview of the described Copilot functions, please visit the Microsoft Power BI blog.
