Power BI Desktop – Update November 2020

The new Microsoft Power BI November Update provides improvements and previews of three great features.

Previews

  • The field lists of the data, model and report views have been unified, creating a more harmonious user experience.
  • The Model View in Power BI Desktop has also been optimised to use the new look, go to the Model View and click "Update Now".
  • Anomaly detection helps improve line charts by automatically detecting anomalies in time series data. It also provides explanations of the anomalies to help with root cause analysis. This makes it quick and easy to identify findings with just a few clicks, without having to search the data further. As this function is in the preview mode, the function button must first be activated by going to File > Options and Settings > Options > Preview function and ensuring that anomaly detection is enabled.

There is now also a handy way to add a zoom slider to Cartesian charts. Zoom sliders provide reporters and consumers with an easy way to examine a smaller area of data on a chart without having to use a filter.

Full details of the new features and functions of the update can be found in the official release notes from Microsoft and in this video.
