We Bridge the Gap Between ERP and Webshop

With the WebConnector, TSO-DATA connects Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central with webshops like Shopware or Shopify – securely, automatically, and proven in practice.
In this interview, Tilo Bartholomäus (Consultant Business Central) and Jan Grundmann (Sales Business Central) explain what matters most. And why the WebConnector makes a real difference – not just for online retail.

What exactly is the WebConnector – and who is it for?
Tilo:
The WebConnector is our standard solution for connecting webshops to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. We've been successfully using it in projects for over 20 years – from medium-sized B2B companies to complex multi-shop operators. If you want to automate your shop processes and rely on a stable ERP system, the WebConnector is the perfect bridge.

What sets your solution apart from other interface approaches?
Tilo:
Clearly: the deep integration into Business Central. The WebConnector doesn’t run alongside – it’s embedded directly into the user interface. So you always work in your familiar environment. At the same time, we offer two operating modes: passive – when your shop requests or sends data – and active, when Business Central controls the communication. You can even combine both.

What does a typical use case look like?
Jan:
You create a new item in Business Central – with price, description, and stock level. The WebConnector automatically transfers this to your webshop. As soon as a customer places an order, it is imported into the ERP, validated, and created as a sales order. Shipping information like tracking numbers can also be sent back directly. The whole process runs without media disruption – fast, secure, and transparent.

How do you ensure that faulty data doesn’t cause problems?
Tilo:
Orders from the webshop first land in the “incoming sales documents.” This is a kind of intelligent buffer. There we check whether all information is correct – whether the item exists, the address is complete, the customer is recognized, etc.
Jan:
If something is missing or unclear, you receive targeted feedback – with clear logs. This way, you not only avoid incorrect sales orders but also always have full control over data quality. Ideally, everything runs automatically – and if not, you know exactly why.

How complex is it to implement the WebConnector?
Tilo:
Surprisingly little – if you stick to the standard. Many customers can start without any development effort. Especially the active connection to Shopware or Shopify works very quickly. And if you have special requirements, the WebConnector can be specifically extended – always tailored to your needs.

Which shop systems do you currently support – and what’s next?
Jan:
Currently, Shopware 6 and Shopify are actively supported by default. In addition, you can integrate many other systems via our passive interface.
Tilo:
Which systems we support directly in the future depends heavily on our projects. The WebConnector is continuously being developed – always based on practical requirements. That makes it so flexible and future-proof.

What makes the WebConnector special for you personally?
Jan:
For me, it’s the fact that we create real added value – in terms of efficiency, quality, and speed. The WebConnector brings systems and people together and makes complex processes easy to manage.
Tilo:
What I find particularly impressive is how versatile the WebConnector is – and still easy to use. It creates a connection between ERP and the online world that is truly noticeable in everyday life – for companies as well as their customers.
Jan:
And looking ahead: there’s more to come. We’re currently working on enabling active connections to marketplaces like Amazon or eBay via middleware. This will make it possible to manage product data, prices, inventory, and order data directly from Business Central to marketplaces – just as conveniently as with webshops.

Thank you both for the conversation!
