Cloud services continue to boom, as this technology simplifies work processes and improves collaboration among employees. To ensure that companies also meet regulatory requirements, Microsoft has been offering its cloud solutions from German data centre regions since the beginning of 2020. Local data storage of the core services in Germany with a connection to the global Microsoft Cloud provides access to the latest functions and meets the high security and compliance standards. At the same time, Microsoft's high level of transparency regarding the policies, operational methods and technologies used to ensure data protection in Microsoft's online services ensures a high degree of confidence in the handling of sensitive business data as well.
The switch to the new German cloud regions is now also possible for existing Office 365 users, for which Microsoft has introduced the Office Move Program. Within this framework, it is possible to apply for a free move of the Office 365 core services Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business and Microsoft Teams to the new German data centres in Berlin and Frankfurt.
The offer is aimed at existing Office 365 enterprise customers with a billing address in Germany whose data was previously located at the Amsterdam (Western Europe) or Dublin (Northern Europe) sites. The move is also available for Microsoft 365 customers who want to move Office 365 as part of the complete solution to the new German cloud regions. The registration period ends on 30 April 2021, the complete move will then take place by 01 May 2023 at the latest.
