Microsoft Power Automate - Run processes automatically

Automate tasks that you would normally have to do manually, such as sending emails or saving data to a database, with Microsoft Power Automate.

Microsoft Power Automate is part of the Microsoft Power Platform and is a tool that enables organizations to run workflows and processes automatically. Users:inside can automate tasks that they would normally have to perform manually, such as sending emails, storing data in a database, or forwarding information to another person or department.

One of the most important features of Power Automate is the ability to automatically execute tasks based on rules and triggers. This means that certain actions, such as sending an email, are triggered automatically when certain conditions are met, such as entering data into a specific column in an Excel spreadsheet.

Another important feature of Power Automate is the ability to create processes and workflows visually. Users:inside can easily create a workflow by putting the different steps together in a drag-and-drop interface. This allows even non-developers to automate processes.

A large number of available templates make it easy to get started, e.g. get notified by email about tweets with certain keywords, receive upcoming calendar entries by email or request approvals for certain SharePoint documents:

Power Automate provides numerous security features to ensure that automated processes run safely. These include the ability to restrict access rights to specific processes, real-time monitoring of processes, and the ability to limit processes to specific users or groups of users. Overall, Power Automate allows companies to automate their processes and workflows to save time and resources. It is easy to use and very integration friendly.

Power Automate is suitable for companies of all sizes and industries. It can be used in many areas, such as purchasing, production, sales, and financial management. It can also be used for internal processes, such as personnel management, vacation request management and document management.

Examples for the use of Power Automate

An example of how Power Automate might be used in an organization would be for employees to enter purchasing requisitions into an Excel spreadsheet. Power Automate would then automatically send an email to purchasing management to confirm the requisition, and then send another email to the supplier to place the order. Once the order is confirmed, Power Automate would automatically send an email to the employee to inform them of the status of the order.

Other examples of other use cases would be these:

  • An HR department can use Power Automate to automatically approve or deny leave requests based on available resources and the approved leave budget.
  • A finance department can use Power Automate to automatically scan, read and post invoices to financial software.
  • The marketing department can have social media posts scheduled and published automatically, based on a pre-created content calendar.
  • IT can use Power Automate to automatically create and assign tickets when certain events occur in IT systems.
  • Sales can use Power Automate to automatically send follow-up emails to potential customers based on their interactions with the website or email campaigns.

Connect Power Automate with apps, data, and services

Power Automate connects to a wide variety of different applications and services, including Microsoft 365 (Office 365), SharePoint, OneDrive, and many more - discover the many supported connectors here at Microsoft that let you automate your processes even across Microsoft system boundaries.
