Infrastructure security concepts in times of viruses, phishing and extortion

According to the latest report by the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), damage caused by cyber attacks due to extortion and system failures has increased by 358% since 2019, posing a huge threat to the German economy. A Bitkom study found that 86% of all companies have already suffered damage from cyber attacks, more than a quarter of which rate the consequences as threatening to their existence or very severe.

The attack on the University Hospital in Düsseldorf, for example, had an extreme impact:

Ransom demands in the millions for hijacked corporate data after hacker attacks on companies are also not uncommon, as the attack on the US company Kaseya proves:

Attacks take place in many different ways, so a comprehensive security concept is particularly important to keep the number of possible incursions as low as possible. Our experts work closely with other partners in the field of IT security to plan and implement concepts for a wide range of scenarios.

Learn about some of our proven measures for protecting sensitive data in companies here:

Firewall

  • Examine data stream for possible virus patterns
  • Perform DNS queries to detect requests directed to possible malware distributors
  • Intrusion detection to detect and block e.g. Log4J

Anti Virus

  • Protect workstations (also in the home office!) from malware with Bitlocker, for example.
  • Protect servers so that as many different scan engines as possible are used in the network, e.g. with Microsoft's anti-virus protection.
  • Check incoming e-mails for trustworthiness using NoSpamProxy (should include virus scan, anti-spam and file filter).

Phishing

  • "Use "multi-factor authentication
  • Sensitise employees

Back up data

  • Back up data daily, if necessary on several servers in different locations.

Train employees

  • Sensitise employees to the dangers by means of cyber defence awareness training (untrained employees are a strong weak point and the greatest risk for cyber attacks).

Protocol and procedure in case of emergency

  • Prepare for an emergency so that you can react quickly before sensitive data falls into the wrong hands (data protection).
